The service

YouTube Timestamp lets you save moments from YouTube videos with notes and tags in a local library, search and organize them, and use transcripts, AI summaries, and video chat in a workspace beside the video. Optional cloud accounts and subscriptions provide separate sync and web dashboard services. The Chrome extension and website together make up the service.

Accounts

No YouTube Timestamp account is required for local features, the Pro trial, or lifetime license activation. A purchase email is needed for license delivery and recovery. Creating a cloud archive account requires Google sign-in. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping access to that Google account secure.

Free local features

Local bookmarks, notes, tags, library search, timeline markers, JSON export, and backup restoration are free and have no timestamp-count limit. Your local library is tied to this Chrome profile and is not automatically backed up or synced across devices. Keep a JSON backup before changing devices, removing a profile, or uninstalling the extension.

14-day Pro trial

The trial starts only when you choose Start free trial in extension Settings. Installing or updating the extension does not start it. The trial grants 14 days of folder organization, caption capture, transcript import, AI summaries, and video chat, with no account or payment card required. It does not automatically turn into a paid purchase. AI provider usage is billed separately. After expiry, free features remain available and saved notes, transcripts, summaries, and conversations remain readable and exportable.

Pro Lifetime license

The founding price is $5 once, excluding applicable tax. This one-time purchase unlocks folder organization, caption capture, transcript import, AI summaries, and video chat for the local extension. The license has no expiry and no recurring license payment. It does not include AI credits, cloud sync, cloud backup, or a web dashboard subscription.

Dodo Payments processes the purchase and emails your license key. Activate it in Workspace or Library Settings → Lifetime license. The license allows one active browser installation at a time. To move it, deactivate the old installation before activating the new one; use Recover license / manage devices in Settings if the old installation is unavailable. Transfer your library separately using JSON backup and restore.

Activation and periodic license checks require internet access. After a successful check, paid local features have up to 14 days of cached offline access. An invalid or revoked license may lose access sooner. Losing paid access does not delete saved content or prevent reading and exporting it.

Local transcripts and AI features

During the trial or with a lifetime license, AI features use your own Gemini, OpenRouter, OpenAI, or DeepSeek API key. Requests send the transcript, question, and relevant context to your chosen provider. Its terms, privacy policies, limits, and charges apply; provider usage is billed separately. These local AI features do not use the cloud summary beta's monthly allowances.

Caption capture depends on what YouTube makes available and may fail. You can import plain or timestamped text, SRT, or WebVTT as a fallback. Summaries and video chat require a transcript and internet access, and provider, model, and transcript-size limits apply. AI answers can contain mistakes; check the source video before relying on them.

Existing cloud accounts: Free allowance

Free accounts can sync up to 100 active timestamps to the cloud. Only active (not deleted) saves count toward the limit. Signed-out extension use remains unlimited and local-only. When a free account is at the sync limit, new extension saves may stay on the device only until you upgrade or delete synced timestamps.

Existing cloud Pro subscriptions and pricing

Cloud Pro subscriptions unlock unlimited cloud-synced timestamps and folder organization, plus future Pro features as we ship them. The founding price is $49 per year. We expect the list price to rise to $99 per year at general availability, after the limited summary beta. The limited beta stays $49 per year. Founding subscribers keep the $49 rate for life while their subscription remains continuous.

Payments are processed by Dodo Payments on a hosted checkout. Only cloud subscription purchases authorize recurring annual charges until you cancel. These subscriptions are separate from Pro Lifetime licenses; neither purchase grants the other service's paid access.

Cloud AI summary limited beta

Cloud Free includes 3 lifetime summary unlocks. Cloud Pro includes 30 new video summaries per UTC month. Both plans support whole saved videos up to 60 minutes, with English output. Usable captions and input-size limits apply. Longer videos are not shortened to fit. Unavailable or failed summaries do not use an unlock. Access to an unlocked summary requires keeping the video in your saved archive.

AI summaries can contain mistakes. Check the linked video moments before relying on them. Generation may pause during the beta. Archive chat is upcoming and is not included in the current summary feature.

Cloud subscription renewal and cancellation

Cloud Pro renews automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel from the billing page before renewal. When a cloud Pro subscription ends, nothing in your library is deleted. You can still browse, search, edit, favorite, and delete timestamps. New cloud saves pause once you are over the free limit of 100, and folders lock until you resubscribe.

Acceptable use

Use the service only for lawful purposes. Do not attempt to abuse sync, bypass plan limits by automated means, interfere with other users, or use the service to store content you do not have rights to keep. We may suspend accounts that abuse the service.

Your content

You retain rights to the notes and tags you create. You grant us the limited rights needed to store, sync, and display that content so the service can function. Video titles, channel names, thumbnails, and captions come from YouTube and remain subject to YouTube’s terms. When you are signed in and save a timestamp, the extension may upload that video’s captions to a shared cache we keep for the summary beta and search features. We store one copy per video and language; it is not part of your private library and is not deleted when you remove timestamps or close your account.

Disclaimers

The service is provided “as is.” We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, perfect sync in every network condition, or that YouTube’s page layout will always allow the extension UI to appear. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the service.

Changes

We may update these terms as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date on this page. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
